Originally from southern California, I grew up with a high interest in music. In high school, my friends and I decided to start a band. at that time we were all into punk rock. I decided to give the drums a try. after a few months, my parents bought me my first drum set. a 5 piece pearl export in black. my friends and I would practice almost every day for hours. eventually, we played parties, live shows and did some recording. At that time recording, a full band was a bit expensive for 4 high schoolers. eventually, we went our separate ways. I would continue to play the drums and invest more into all things drum-related.
Many years later after meeting my wife here in Japan we decided to stay here and make a living. after saving up to buy my current drumset, a 5 piece Pearl Reference Pure. I would head out to any local studio every week for hours. by this time recording had become much more affordable. so with my drums, cymbals, microphones, and audio interface, I would start off collaborating with many other musicians. most in part thanks to a site called HitRecord. from there I have collaborated with musicians I have never met from parts of the world I have never been to myself.
at some point, while I was renting studios, some friends would come to visit. the whole family thought the process was very interesting and someone said I should think about teaching the drums. I have only had a handful of drum lessons myself and I'm not good at reading sheet music, but I thought why not teach drums the way I learned, through playing music. so I tried that and since then found the drums to be a tool to not only help me in life but to help others. If I feel stress or need to express myself artistically the drums were my outlet. now with teaching, I can share that experience. playing the drums has given me something wonderful. I hope to share that with you.
